ENO Hammocks

Relax, Have Fun and Shop Local in Rogers, AR

Ideas are hard to create, and they are even harder to start. In-fact the only easy thing associated with having an idea is listening to all of the great advice, given but never asked for, from friends, family, customers, and the random passer-by who is always looking to inject their own ingredients into the mix. In truth, all the information can be categorized into buckets such as good, bad, and indifferent and the only person who can tell what bucket the information goes in is the person who had the idea to begin with.

I say this because regardless of the type of information you receive, and the method in which you receive it, all information can be used to build an idea into a reality. Some of the information will be used to shape the idea and give it life whereas the rest of the information can be used to set guardrails on what you do not want your idea toKamado Joe become. It is important to focus on this because in the coming posts you will learn that ideas do not merely begin and end, they evolve. The best ideas start out with a dream for something better and this idea is no different. This idea is Second Elm and it started in Historic Downtown Rogers, Arkansas at the corner of Second and Elm!

We selected Downtown Rogers to be the birthplace of this idea because the area is undergoing a type of renaissance, the perfect fuel for new ideas. Also, there was a lot of fantastic history in Downtown Rogers that made it seem like the ideal spot to start a retail store focused on exploring, entertaining, and evolving the way people enjoy the outdoors…Rogers, Arkansas is the birthplace of Walmart, Daisy’s Famous Red Rider BB Gun, and now Second Elm! We wanted to start in downtown Rogers because it is a growing area with shops, services, restaurants, and schools. It is paved with bricks and frequented by patrons who enjoy a good shop as much as they enjoy a good walk, and the shop owners are as nice as they are inviting.

Second Elm is a new store, a new brand, and we serve the community of Northwest Arkansas with products designed
to help them relax, chill, stay cool and enjoy life. We do not a one-stop shop, but for those who are looking to imrpove their grilling experience we have Kamado Joe, for those looking to enjoy the shade we have Maui Jim Sunglasses, for those looking to enjoy the water and stay cool we have ORU Kayaks and Yeti Coolers, and for those looking to relax we have ENO Hammocks, Life is Good and Fayettechill Apparel! We are happy to be in Downtown Rogers and we are happy to be a store where people can shop local, relax, and have fun!

When you get a chance to relax or just have a bit of spare time to taste what we are cooking on the grill I hope you stop by Second Elm!

Turn-off the grill and flip the burgers one last time and let them rest on the hot grill for 3 minutes (This will make sure the meat is cooked to well done without drying them out) Total Cook Time of 13 minutes

If you like the taste of steak on a bun, then this is the burger for you. It is moist and juicy and pairs perfectly with wine or beer. Yes, wine can go with this burger! I prefer a vintage from Mt Veeder because it is warm and brings out the flavors of the meat and the onion in the burger.

Provisions NWA Irish Car Bomb

Irish Car Bombs, a Drink for Celebrations!

There are many things a person can do to celebrate…On New Year’s Eve people drink Champagne, on St. Patrick’s Day people drink green beer, during the fall holidays people drink egg nog, and when it is time to celebrate friends, family, and new people coming into this world people celebrate by drinking Irish Car Bombs, especially when the baby is blessed with an Irish name!

Before getting into the details of how to construct this drink there are a few things we at Provisions would like you to consider:

  1. This is an American cocktail with a horrible name, but some of the best ingredients on the planet.
  2. It is called an Irish Car Bomb because all of the components are Irish in origin Bailey’s Irish Cream, Jameson Irish Whiskey, and Guinness.
  3. It tastes great because the Irish know how to make their alcohol, but you should always drink in moderation.Provisions NWA Irish Car Bomb Mixed

Irish Car Bomb

Ingredients:

  • Guinness Draught Beer
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • 1 Pint Glass
  • 1 Shot Glass

To mix this drink properly, fill up a pint glass halfway with Guinness Draught Beer. Then fill up a shot glass half-full of Bailey’s Irish Cream and half-full of Jameson Irish Whiskey. Once you have the components prepared you are ready to begin mixing and consumption.

Drop the shot glass, containing 1/2 Bailey’s Irish Cream and 1/2 Jameson Irish Whiskey, into the pint glass that is 1/2 full of Guinness Draught Beer. As soon as you drop the shot glass into the beer you will notice a chemical reaction taking place and that is when it is time to consume. There are multiple tactics that can be used to consume this beverage including the chug, the sip, the double-dip, and the inhalation. I personally prefer the chug because I usually consume the drink to celebrate an occasion, and it is the easiest way to taste all of the flavors these Irish beverages have to offer in a single gulp!

This is an easy drink to make, whether for personal celebrations or if it is simply for entertainment value at parties. It tastes smooth and full because one of the things the Irish are best at is making alcohol! Enjoy this drink and many more on our Have a Drink Page!

Kamado Joe Grill

Ranch Burgers on The Kamado Joe Grill

At Second Elm we believe summer time is the best time to get out and grill. There is no special reason it is the best, but it happens to be the time when most people are outside with their families and friends putting meat on the grill and drinking cold beverages to stay cool. The aroma of cooked meat, smoked or grilled, is something would be ideal to air through a supermarket, any time of the year, to activate the “old-factory” senses and make the shoppers hungry for a good, old-fashioned burger!

I have spent a lot of time over the years cooking burgers and one of the easiest, and most flavorful, ones I have ever cooked is the Ranch Burger. Doritos made a ranch chip, Taco Bell made a Doritos Taco with Cool Ranch, and I make hamburgers infused with Hidden Valley Ranch. The great thing about food is that you ca try anything, and putting Hidden Valley Ranch into a burger is far from the nuttiest thing I have ever done!

RANCH BURGER

Ingredients:

  • 2.25 lbs of Ground Beef
  • 2 packets of powdered Hidden Valley Ranch
  • 1 Tablespoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 Chopped White Onion
  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well in a large bowl
  2. Create patties about the size of the palm of your hand, make sure to perforate with a fork to prevent burgers from blowing up like balloons
  3. Pre-Heat Grill to 450 degrees Fahrenheit
  4. Place Ranch Burgers on grill and cook for 5 minutes, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes. Turn-off the grill and flip the burgers one last time and let them rest on the hot grill for 3 minutes (This will make sure the meat is cooked to well done without drying them out) Total Cook Time is 13 minutes
  5. Take burgers off the grill, apply cheese if desired, and let them rest for 3 minutes before serving.

It is important to understand that if you don’t like the taste of Hidden Valley Ranch, you will most certainly not like the taste of this juicy, flavorful, outstanding Ranch Burger cooked to perfection on the Kamado Joe.

This particular burger was paired with the Anchor California Lager, made by the Anchor Brewing Company. This is a great tasting, light lager beer perfect for the summer time because it has a great flavor and smooth taste, especially when it is chilled to 33 degrees Fahrenheit!

It’s hard to be a Dreamer

I once heard someone say that “it is hard to be a dreamer because it is hard to have ideas, and it is easy to give up”. Few words have been found to be more true, and it is for this very reason that Provisions was started.

For as long as I can remember I have had ideas, dreams about starting my own business or inventing a product that would make the world a better place. The more I thought about the idea, the more I would talk myself out of it, for all the reasons you can imagine…”it will cost too much money…someone has probably already invented that…who would pay money for that….and..this will probably fail”. After thinking about enough ideas and watching them pass me by I finally realized that if I never try to start something I am guaranteed to never fail.

That isn’t really the way I want to go through life, and it isn’t the way my business partners want to go through life either. We want to try new things, we want to push the envelop, we want to try some of the best things life has to offer, we want to succeed in living fulfilling lives, and we want to leave a legacy for our families to pass on to their families. Provisions is the first idea I have acted on and it will serve as the starting point for many other ideas to be created. So if you find yourself in the neighborhood stop by and have a beer, see what we are cooking on the grill, and feel free to share your thoughts among friends, I think you’ll be glad you did!
